OSU Geodetic Science History

Geodetic Science was taught on the campus prior to its formation of as a division and the first degrees were awarded in 1953 and 1955 prior to its formation as a department.

1959

Division of Geodetic Science established in the Department of Geology on July 1 under the leadership of Chair Frederick Doyle.

1960

Robert A. Oetjen, Associate Dean of College of Arts and Sciences is named chair.

1961

Division of Geodetic Science becomes a new Department of Geodetic Science under the leadership of Edward Moulton acting as acting chair, who was hired by civil engineering Chair Ken Cosens. Moulton later in 1970 became an OSU Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.

Department of Geodetic Science moves from College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences to College of Engineering

February 1996

Department of Geodetic Science merges with the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Graphics and the combined unit is renamed the OSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science under the leadership of Keith Bedford as chair.

September 1996

Department of Geodetic Science physically moves from Cockins Hall to Hitchcock-Bolz Hall
